In-Sink-Erator
Puntos Fuertes: Works & Installs As Advertised
Puntos Débiles: Dishwasher connection harder to connect than older model.
Overall very happy with this product. Had a previous GE that lasted several years and finally gave up (in part due to my ill-advised attempts to fix it). So picked up this product to replace it.
Installation was rather simple, it fit the universal mount already on the sink and was connected in a few minutes. The only difficulty was the connection to the dishwasher hose involves two screws which hold on a plate which holds the hose in places. This is fine except one of the screws ends up directly behind the hose when you go to install the unit and can make it a little more difficult than the older version which just had a male end which the hose slid over.
Been using since the day it was installed without any issues or problems.

In-Sink-Erator Badger-V
Puntos Fuertes: Durable, reliable, well built, good price point
Puntos Débiles: None on the old model. Housing on new model doesn't seem as strong.
Replaced my first Badger-V with another one. The first one lasted over 16 years without a single day of trouble. Because of this reliability I purchased another one. Didn't even look at any other models. The Badger-V is reasonable priced for the quality of the product.

badger 5
Puntos Fuertes: It works but reccomened to get the upgraded one Badger 9
Puntos Débiles: After 3yrs it's strated leaking inside the motor dripping down on one of the holes on the bottom cousing my GRFI switch to go out nice for the value but It won't last long..
If your going to get a Garbage Disposal don't get the cheap one becouse on a long run you will buy a new one every 2yrs to 3yrs.. So save your time nad money...

Stay Away
Puntos Fuertes: Price, supposed name recognition.
Puntos Débiles: You get what you pay for, name was not what I thought it was.
I bought the 1/2 h.p. In-sink-erator Badger 5 disposal about 2-1/2 years ago, which came with a 2 year warranty. When I purchased it, I assumed the 2 year warranty was not going to be an issue because the previous In-sink-erator I was replacing was over 10 years old, and it seemed less solid than the Badger 5 I just purchased. Funny things happen when you assume, it turns you into the first 3 letters of the word assume, I know this, and I broke the golden rule of assuming.
Now about 6 months after the warranty on my Badger 5 expired I now have water leaking from a crack in the unit. Several of the other on-line compliants I've researched with the Badger 5 point to a crack in the housing with this unit, which seem to come shortly after the warranty expires.
Considering my last In-sink-erator lasted over 10 years, I assumed I would get at least 5 from this one, joke's on me I guess. I didn't realize this disposal was made by Emerson Electronics, which is the same company that makes all those cheap televisions, dvd players, and stereos found on end displays in drug stores. Not sure if the last In-sink-erator 10-year-life was a fluke, or if it was a good product at one time, but no longer?
Anyway, I have noticed that most of the favorable reviews here come from folks who just installed the Badger 5 (I've never understood posting favorable comments about a product that you haven't had long enough to know if it's reliable), but I'm sure those favorable comments might be later revised when their disposals start leaking just after warranty.
VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!

Great simple disposal
Puntos Fuertes: easy to install, works fine
Puntos Débiles: a little loud
After I accidentally dropped something into my old disposal (a step down from this one) I thought I had to call a plumber and get a new disposal installed since I know nothing about this stuff.
Luckily I did some quick research and realized I could replace this thing on my own. I found this model In-sink-erator on Amazon, slightly better than the one I had for around $70. Looked the same, and reviews suggested I wouldn't have to switch any of the other parts out.
The toughest thing was removing the old one since I didn't understand at first how to "unscrew" it off the mounting bracket. Figured it out and had the new one in there in 10 minutes. Glad I didn't call a plumber as this was quite easy. The previous insinkerator came with the house so it lasted almost 9 years.
The disposal itself works fine, I have it hooked into a switch near the sink. It's a little loud, but they have other more expensive models that more quiet... but not something I really cared about much.

Worthless
Puntos Fuertes: Works well for a while
Puntos Débiles: Limited lifespan
We had a badger 5 in the new house we moved into. 3 years later, the plastic casing of the unit has cracked. This is no repairable.
I phoned Insinkerator, and their response was it is out of warranty, suck it up.
So if you want a unit you get to replace every 3 years, go ahead, I am replacing it with something else.

Insinkerator model badger 5
Puntos Fuertes: Very good cutting blades, very strong motor, quiet operation. Easy installation, well defined instructions.
Puntos Débiles: Could have been designed with a stainless steel cutting plate. Should have a place to store the service tool, clamp on side of motor body would be a recommendation
Good value for the money. Would recommend to others. I can see some of the cost cutting that has been done to the replacement unit I installed. One is the rubber back-splash (Opening to the disposal). The rubber has been down graded from the unit that I have removed. Just way to much flex. Should be revisited be insinkerator.

Deteriorating/Leaking
Puntos Fuertes: None
Puntos Débiles: Short life.
I bought a Badger 5 a couple years ago and a hole deteriorated on the side of it, now it is leaking. I'm replacing it with anything but another Insinkerator product.

Insinkerator Badger 5 is a good buy
Puntos Fuertes: Long service life, easy to install, good price, clear instructions
Puntos Débiles: None
All the work came 12 years ago when I replaced my old garbage disposer with a Badger 5. That installation probably took six hours because the old unit was nothing like the new one. When the unit started leaking recently, I simply purchased another Badger 5. The replacement took half an hour with a minimum of tools needed. There were no changes to this unit which had any impact on the installation. Everything lined up perfectly. I am impressed with the service life of this model. If I had replaced it when the rubber ring which minimimizes splashback started to deteriorate or when it started making too much noise (about a year ago) I could have avoided a puddle on the kitchen floor and a rush to get to the store on a Sunday before it closed. On the other hand, our dinner guests got to see how easy it is to replace this unit and the second half of the football game was awful so I didn't miss anything.

Original lasted over ten years.
Puntos Fuertes: Will grind most anything you put into it. Best unit in this price range. Reasonably easy to install. Comes with a hex key to clear any clogs.
Puntos Débiles: Could be more quiet.
I have gone through several disposers in the 30 or so years I have been a homeowner. I have tried the cheaper 1/3 horsepower disposers and found they clog more easily and don't last. They are not worth the $10 or $20 you save.
I have also tried the more expensive 3/4 and 1 horsepower insulated units. They don't seem to grind any better than the 1/2 horsepower models. And the noise seems to come out the top of these, so all the insulation around the bottom doesn't help much to control noise.
Of the right-sized 1/2 horsepower models, I have tried a GE, a Kitchenaid, a Maytag, and an Insinkerator. The Insinkerator worked the best and lasted the longest. I finally did wear one out, but it took just over ten years to do it. So I am replacing it with an identical unit. If you do get a clog, the Insinkerator has a wrench to turn the unit from the bottom. It works much better than the old broom handle in the top trick. We cook a lot, but try to put big piles of peelings or vegetable matter in the trash or the compost pile rather than down the disposer. Not because the Insinkerator won't handle them, but we're trying to be somewhat responsible with water use and the environment. We have a neighbor who tried to be fully green and left a disposer out of her recent kitchen remodel. She wants one back now.
Bottom line, you can spend a little less or a whole lot more, but the 1/2 horsepower Insinkerator is the best of the many disposers I have tried.

great garbage disposal
Puntos Fuertes: It grinds up everything we put into it.
Puntos Débiles: none
We are very happy with our new Badger garbage disposal. It was very easy to install and it grinds up even heavy citrus peels. I haven't tried banana peels yet. It is a very good product for the money.

Badger 5 Plus dead in 6 years
Puntos Fuertes: 1/2 horse power
Puntos Débiles: worked great for six whole years
After 6 years my badger garbage disposal leaked straight through. I would've thought it would've lasted longer. It worked great while it worked. 1/2 horsepower is all you need as it would stop for nothing. Buy another brand.

Insink erator garbage disposal
Puntos Fuertes: easy to install
Puntos Débiles: none
I had an old in sink erator which lasted about 20 years. When it quit I decided to get another In sink erator garbage disposal. I would highly recommend other customers to purchase an in sink erator product

insinkerator badger garbage disposals
Puntos Fuertes: easy to install
Puntos Débiles: will not last more than 1 or 2 years past warranty. they have them engineered to destruct. I own rentals, and these units are not cost efficient.
easy to install and replace, but I regret ever using them. once you have one, the easy change feature will almost force you to buy another; MUCH sooner than you would like.
