Puntos Fuertes: Almost every thing you need is there with reasonable price. (Check my review)
Puntos Débiles: Missing AC Adapter, Problem with speakers when restarting, No firewire, No DVI port.
Resumen: 2007-10-03 11:37:54 I just bought HP Pavilion dv2000t; it is my first notebook ever after 15 years of desktop computers. So I want it to be a smooth move. One of my main concerns while choosing the notebook was the docking station. I was looking for a desktop replacement, and HP xb3000 covered almost 95% of my needs. It has 6 USB ports, Headphone jack, Mic jack, SPDIF Audio output, VGA port, RCA video, video components, S-video, Ethernet connection, Speakers, Volume control, Mute, and Power Switch. It has adjustable reclaim stand, where you can adjust the height of your notebook. In addition, it comes with wireless keyboard and mouse along with their receiver which should be connected to one of the USB ports (I used them for another computer since I already have my Logitech EX300). The xb3000 has a small compartment for optional HP 300GB harddrive kit which I think does not worth the price ($250), I prefer if HP sells the Harddrive kit alone without the 300GB hard disk so I can install my own capacity. Well, you can use an external USB Hard Disk anyway.
I connected 19" LCD to the station where I use it as primary monitor and my notebook as the extended, this way helps you viewing different websites or document simultaneously on both monitors.
Pros: All above mentioned ports connects to the notebook with a single plug. You can use notebook ports as well while docked. In addition, you can use the remote control that comes with the notebook. Also you can use any two video outputs together. The notebook charges while docked.
Cons: No AC adapter included, where you suppose to use your notebook adapter!! I don't know what HP were thinking, it is not practical to remove it each time you want to take the notebook with you!! So I ordered another adapter of course, (I think this what HP wanted). You can add its cost to the xb3000. Another disadvantage, there is no Firewire port, although it is not important to me, yet. But still you can use the one in the notebook. Another thing, while restarting the computer, the speakers make a high knock-like noise even if they were muted. One last thing, forget about connecting your LCD with DVI connection, neither the notebook nor the xb3000 have Digital input (DVI), so you should use the analog (the blue monitor connector).
I read in other reviews that if you unplug the docking station while using or viewing a file in an external drive, it would crash windows. This will happen also if the notebook hibernated while the file was open. I have not tried this myself so I am not sure.
Overall, I'm very happy with my xb3000. It made my office looks neat.

Puntos Fuertes: Ends cable cultter. Makes it very easy to pick up the Pavilion laptop for portability. Comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Elevates laptop screen putting it at eye level. Can add a disk drive.
Puntos Débiles: Only one: it does not come with a separate power supply, which would be a real plus.
Resumen: I considered both the XB3000 expansion base (full doc) and the HP Mini-dock. I had thought I'd buy the mini-dock because of the much lower price but I also wanted a wireless k/b and mouse. When the cost of these is added to the mini-dock, it is within a reasonable price differential to the XB3000, and the XB3000 has more features, in particular the adjustable, elevated stand. The other think I like about the XB3000 (but ran out of room in the strengths section above), is the replication of the power, mute and sound volume buttons on the front of the XB3000, making it unnecessary to reach up to the top of the Pavilion keyboard.
The HP wireless k/b is especially top notch.
Finally, all I did was clear a space for it, plug it in and the Pavilion into it and it worked.
I'm very pleased that I purchased this and not the mini-dock.

Puntos Fuertes: Nice looking and very practical Design
Desk Space Saver
Allows for an extra HD to be held inside.
Lots of USB connectors on the base itself (plus you can also use the ones on notebook)
Puntos Débiles: No bi-directional Infrared Port on base
No bluetooth adapter on the base
No Firewire port on base
No HDMI (High Definition Video Connector) on base.
No Serial Port on base.
Resumen: 2007-10-12 19:43:42 This is the nicest docking station that I have ever owned, and in combination with the HP Pavilion computers it makes for a rocking combination. It is unfortunate that some 'basic' connections are missing (see weaknesses) from the docking station....although you can access them from the PC itself. But connecting/disconnecting things from the notebook is exactly what one wants to prevent when buying a docking station...so that is why I consider them a weakness.

Puntos Fuertes: This unit is of VERY high quality. It is well built, and looks as stylish and professional as the HP DV6000 computer that I am using it with.
Puntos Débiles: Two-- Lack of provided power supply and rather shaky table that the computer actually sits on. See details below:
Resumen: I am VERY critical as to the quality and usability of computer devices, since I have worked as a hardware consultant for 30 years. I can truly say that the ONLY weakness that I have thus far detected are that the adjustable table upon which the computer sits is NOT that solid. It tends to bounce if you press on the computer. You need to exercise care not to apply too much downward force to it, or it might be damaged. The other shortcoming is that NO power supply is included -- you are expected to use the one from the computer. If you travel with your computer very much, this can be a REAL inconvenience. If and when you buy another power supply, look on eBay. HP wants about $60. However, you can find MUCH better prices on eBay !! Get a 90w unit, NOT the original 65w -- that will give you reserve power for additional devices. Also, check eBay for the whole unit - there are some good prices out there. I purchased mine, factory new, for $120 plus $19 S&H. Also, rather that paying HP's EXTREMELY high price for an external hard drive, buy a portable external unit, one that houses a 2.5 inch drive. There is a slot in the left of the base unit meant to accept HP's plug in drive module. However, you should be able to slip a small external drive into the slot and simply plug its cable into one of the USB ports. The base comes with an RF mouse, keyboard and receiver, which plugs into a USB port. They can be used with ANY computer. They are of reasonable quality, but I have seen better. The keyboard lacks programmable and multimedia keys. The mouse seems to have very good resolution and is quite responsive. I will be interested to see how long the mouse batteries last, since it is on ALL of the time. Actually, I would have preferred if the base had been offered with the mouse and keyboard as optional units. It would be much better to get a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard (hear that HP !!!). Then you could take the mouse with you. I don't know about others, but I could NEVER do any serious "mousing" with the touchpad on the computer !!

Buyer Beware!
Puntos Fuertes: ergonomics
Puntos Débiles: reliability price service
Resumen: I have had two of these and both broke down withing two months. Check EBay - there are tons of these for sale that are DOA. The concept is great and they are comfortable to use. The price at $175-250 is about $125 too much. I will not buy again. In fact until HP gets its service system fixed I will look elsewhere for all my computer needs. So you know I am not just a complainer - I have 6 computers, 4 printers and lots of peripherals - HP in many cases. The HP printers are great, this base is crud! The wireless keyboard and mouse are nice, but I'd suggest buying just those separately and skipping the base. In fact, buy one of the dead bases on EBay for a spot to park the computer and then just plug the wireless keyboard and mouse into the computer. I know it defeats the purpose of being as portable with the computer as we'd all like, but why spend the hundreds of dollars for something that breaks? Unless you really like spending the time with the warranty folks being transferred over and over - not me!

Puntos Fuertes: -Docking level can be raised to suit user eye level
-Plenty of ports/inputs
-Wireless Keyboard and Mouse included
Puntos Débiles: -Strenght of wireless connection for mouse is a little weak.
-NO PS/2 input, yeah it's outdated but I would like to plug in a keyboard of my choice that's not USB.
-Speakers aren't good enough
Resumen: I got this for $149.99+tax and I have to say that it was money well spent. My notebook computer is an HP pavilion dv9205 which has a 17" widescreen and it works perfectly with this dock. The wireless keyboard works good, but the wireless mouse isn't always that accurate. Perhaps it has to do with the placement of the sensor but so far the mouse tends to drift on it's own. It happens enough times to be annoying, but I can live with it. This product deserves 4 stars out of 5 because it could be a little cheaper and the mouse needs a better connection.

Puntos Fuertes: The Best on the Market | Love the Keyboard/ Mouse | Excellent Match of the laptop
Puntos Débiles: No Base to the speakers/ are low at some points | No Power cable supplied! (Minus One for this Product) | Blocks most of the Laptops cooling fan
Resumen: You have to have this for the laptop if you use it at your house a lot. It brings the laptop up off the table so it is level with your face so you don’t have to be bothered with at awkward placement. The built in speakers are nothing special but do definitely give the onboard speakers a boost. The wireless mouse and keyboard work great and are just like my high quality Logitech setup, just without all the multimedia keys.

Puntos Fuertes: Lots of USB ports.
Puntos Débiles: Wireless keyboard and mouse can be a pain to connect.
Doesn't come with power supply.
Resumen: If you uses your laptop most of the time in one place like a work station then this is a must. You have tons of USB ports, VGA hookup for second monitor and ethernet port when you don't want to have any issue with network. The keyboard and mouse are very nice but do find that they can be a pain to make the wireless work but it seems that a pair of fresh battries does the trick. The best part is when you want to uses your laptop on the go you just have to un-plug one connection and bingo you are on the go. Highly recommend that if you want this to be more on the go get a second power supply (base uses same power supply as laptop).

Puntos Débiles: No firewire port for downloading digital video or express card slot
Resumen: For the most part, this x3000 expansion base is just what I needed. It easily connected to my laptop and made looking at the screen easy and eased the strain on my neck.

XB3000
Puntos Fuertes: Easy to connect accessories and laptop, extra ports.
Puntos Débiles: Big and bulky on desk, wireless key board and mouse seems flimsy.
Resumen: Overall the unit is satisfactory, I was surprised how large the unit was when I placed it on my desk. The mouse and keyboard could have been made more sturdy.

Puntos Fuertes: Flexibility
Gobs of USB ports
Puntos Débiles: None so far
Resumen: I really like this expansion base. I recently purchased a laptop and I for one HATE to type on laptop keyboards. I was prepared to buy an extra keyboard to use when I saw this expansion base. I love that I can turn my laptop into a desktop. The base includes multiple USB ports as well as headphone jack, built in Altec Lansing speakers, etc. It also comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse. You do have to use the power supply that came with your laptop (or go purchase an extra one). Otherwise, this thing has it all.

Puntos Fuertes: A single quick connect connects your notebook to everything.
Puntos Débiles: Must use your existing power adapter or purchase another one separately.
Resumen: This Expansion Base works great. Very nice that you can make one connection to your notebook and be connected to all your external devices. Works great with my dv9207 notebook. As mentioned above, the only downside is it does not include a power adapter. You must use the one that came with your notebook, or purchase another one separately. But, you can find them online for about $35.
Very nice accessory for HP 1000, 2000, 6000 & 9000 notebook lines. I would definitely recommend it to others.
