Puntos Fuertes: This amp's strong point is the clean channel. It also likes effects. Not all amps do. This amp has it's place. It's not a Marshall. It's niche is kinda Country/Metal. It doesn't do brown sound, it does both extremes. If you like Princeton or C
Puntos Débiles: If you crave the tone of silky plexi overdriven EL34's, this ain't your amp
Resumen: Two channel, independent volume, no master. Three EH 12ax7, Two JJ 6L6GC's. Effects loop jacks are on the control panel. Class A - A/B texture control on the back panel. Footswitch switches channels and turns boost on/off. Pretty straight forward. Simple is good. The first thing that struck me about this amp is the clean channel. Think shimmering Fender, no, think solid state Peavey. It's that clean. Slap-back echo comes back clean and true. Country pickers are gonna lose sleep playing through this amp. It dials right in and loves effects. I put a Boss CS-3 compressor in front and the Carvin FX2 in the effects loop. Go subtle with the effects and you can get impressively close to Brad Paisley's Train Wreck tone. Pushing the back end (6L6GC power section) gives tube compession with very little breakup. Use a Tele and think Sweet Home - Skynyrd. The dirty channel is characterized by the 12ax7's. This is in no way Marshall EL34 tone. It's gritty and decidedly American tone. It will do American scoop through a 4x12 cabinet, but not through the stock speaker. I'm not knocking the stock speaker. It does everthing I want it to, but if you're gonna play George Lynch, use a 4x12. Again, go subtle with the gain on this amp. It's got gain from here to Christmas, but the sweet spot is lower gain to my ear. Like most Marshalls, this amp has a bridge circuit to provide compression to front end overdrive. Suited well for high gain metal. Stage volume is not a problem for this amp. 50 watts is plenty. Drop a SM57 in front of it if you need more to the house. I got this amp new last month. I can't speak for it's reliability, but I have two other Peavey amps that I rely on and they haven't let me down. Peavey has always treated me well. Customer service is better than the other two American electric guitar makers by far.
