FarmerBob - (August 24, 2006) This is the best piece of audio gear I have purchased in a long time. It doesn't look like much, but does it perform. For years I have dreamed of archiving and having my vinyl on CD or as digital files. My good tables are long gone and my beaters are dead. This setup makes it so very easy. I have only used the USB connection, but it also has RCA with an onboard preamp with line switching and gain. This will make it easy to hook up to just about any system. It also has a stereo mini jack on the front to feed in a tape player or the like. This only works if hooked up via USB. The provided software, Audacity (Freeware) is OK (I got V1.2.5, the manual is for 1.2.4, and 1.3 is on its way), a

larriemac - (August 05, 2007) I have been trying to convert an extensive collection of vinyl LPs to digital music, both to burn CDs and load on my hard disk. Using my turntable with simple audio output (not line out) did not work. It actually fried my audio card. This looked like an ideal solution. Most reviews criticized the software, but I am using Magix's Audio Cleaning Lab so I didn't think the software would be a problem. installed the free Audacity software ver 1.2.4 on my desktop PC (Pavilion, 3.0 Gig Pentium IV, 1.5 Gig DDRAM and 120 Gig hard disk, running Windows XP SP2.) The install was easy and the instructions for setting up the sound card were easy. The first side of the first LP went fine. After that

The most recent reviewer said, "I spent an entire week prior to the arrival of my Project XPression III playing the same 3 LP's (The Who - "Live at Leeds", Little Feat - "Waiting for Columbus", and Santana - "Caravanserai") on my Denon model DP-300F in order to "memorize" the frequency response, presence, and soundstage for later comparison to the Project. OK, so the setup is a little bit tedious, but it's not difficult! The result was rewarding beyond my expectations! Apparently, none of the other three turntables I've owned over the past forty-something years (Akai, Denon, and something else I don't even remember) belong in the same category as the Project; I was honestly blown away from the first few seconds of "My Generation" (Live at Leeds is not necessarily noted for being a well-engineered recording), I can truthfully say, this album never sounded so good. The Project sends a much higher volume signal to by Denon AVR-2009 receiver than the old turntable did, the instruments have a much more pronounced separation and expanded frequency range! Not only am I impressed with the Project turntable, I've got a bit more respect for the engineering of this album (which sounds closer to a mono recording on my old system). "Caravanserai" was the true test, the wide range of frequency response and channel separation allowed me to pick out indiviual musical components previously overlooked. "Waiting for Columbus" is pure pleasure; the Tower of Power horns are in my living room! My albums never sounded so good! "

Also it is simple; cartridge has to be attached to the tonearm via a fixed mount. That means correct alignment always. This gem arrived with the acclaimed Clearaudio Virtuoso cartridge which sounds amazing. Audiophile, high end performance at reasonable price. The most recent reviewer said, "I purchased this table to replace a Thorens TD166 MKII and I was worried that I might be taking a step back. Not one bit! The table is a breeze to set up, looks stunning and sounds even better. Nearly dead quite for the noise floor and the carbon tonearm + 2M Red combo is very capable. tracking was great, dynamics were improved over the Thorens and a much more controlled sound stage. Vocals were much better placed. Plus this table is easily upgradable with the acrylic platter and speedbox. As usual Crutchfield was nothing but amazing as well. Ordered on a Monday, on my doorstep on Wednesday. Packaging was solid as usual. "
