People I've shown them to cannot believe that it was from a digital camera (I use a 5 mega-pixel camera) and printed at home rather than the traditional film camera and photo lab processing. The prints come out sharp. The coating on the photos is nice and clear. The coating doesn't hold fingerprints when you touch the photo, which makes handling them pretty carefree. The thumbnail feature is nice, even when you're printing from a computer. My only disappointment is that they say on the box that you can print wallet-size prints. gatorrock - (June 01, 2004) I have been using this printer in my genetics lab for over 2 months now and can say this is the best printer I've seen at a consumer level. The print quality of this machine is hard to beat. We print pictures of cell organelles to full people on this printer, using 2 megapixel microscope cameras up to the 13.89 megapixel Kodak DNS camera- the print quality never fails to impress. And when we use the high gloss photo paper, you would think we sent it to a photo lab. This printer is not without faults mind you, it does have a nasty habit of setting itself as the default printer. So you have to check that setting pretty often (but this maybe be a network issue). princedavis - (August 29, 2006) I have been using this printer for the past 6 months or so, and I have mixed feelings. It is easy to set up and install, but it is somewhat slow to boot (the HP this printer replaced was ready in a few seconds -- the MP830 takes about a minute to boot up). Once you get the printer set up and begin printing text and photos, it is easy to see why this printer has been so well reviewed. Text is sharp and photos on Canon's photo paper are virtually perfect. The unit also has duplex copying/scanning/printing. mshupak - (13/03/10) I was at first wary of purchasing a generic product for such a drastic price difference. The Brother cartridges are $22 each. But these actually last longer than the Brother cartridges at a fraction of the price. This saves my business hundreds of dollars a year!

asdpfiou - (26/02/10) We have to use 3rd party software ("Cute") to re-size the .pdf. Seems like it would be a very simple thing for Brother to actually output the same size document as it is scanning. I would never buy another Brother.

JimPettis - (25/02/10) You cannot install an "expired" ink cartridge into a printer, even if you want to do so and even if it is been kept fresh and unopened. Therefore, you also cannot keep a backup ink cartridge (unless you go through ink quickly.) There is a class action lawsuit against HP right now as a consequence of this immoral practice, which forces you to dispose of ink cartridges that you have purchased and never used and to buy new ink cartridges that are not needed.
