BenQ Value PB6200 DLP Projector

Puntos Fuertes: Projects a really good image in all modes. Picture is sharp, setup is easy.

Puntos Débiles: I see some rainbow effects in some scenes; my wife does not, though. fan is a little ouder than I had expected, even watching in economy mode, though not a distraction.

We've watched several movies on it by now. The most visually demaning was The Forgotten, and that movie, while mediocre, was enhanced by watching on a large display. I have it projecting to about 75 inches in economy mode. I do still need to do some tweaking of the image, as it doesn't seem entirely ideal out of the box. But I am watching it in economy mode instead of video mode, and economy mode doesn't have ideal video settings without some tweaking (though that can be accomplished).

Overall I'm staisfied with it. The rainbow effects can be a distraction in a few scenes, but I don't notice them in the vast majority of scenes. There are projectors that will do better strictly for video in about the same price range, but I wanted one with XGA resolution for presentations also, and you won't find another XGA for close to this price range.

BenQ Value PB6200 DLP Projector

Puntos Fuertes: Good picture quality. High contrast. Brightness

Puntos Débiles: Limited input. Not really small or light (acceptable, though). Not true 16:9

I've used Sony and Infocus projectors in my office, and purchased BenQ pb6200 for my home theater. Compared with those projectors I've used before, its size (bigger, actually much thicker than I thought),weight and design not really attractive, but acceptable though. However, its image quality is much better than other higher priced competitors.
As many people pointed out, its input is limited. If you use S-video cable to connect your DVD player to the projector, you can't see the best image quality.
When I first turned it on, the white area and white fonts look unstable and trembling for a while, but it became OK soon. I tried to shoot more than 150" to the white wall of my home, and found the image was still amazingly vivid and sharp.
16:9 mode was somewhat disappointing although I knew that it doesn't deliever true 16:9 image. In its 16:9 mode, you can see some gray area on the top and the bottom of the picture.
The last thing I want to mention is BenQ's limited warranty. The lamp life is warranted only for 1000 hours (or 90 days), and if you get a defective item, BenQ provides replacement of only the defective parts so that you can't get new one.

BenQ Value PB6200 DLP Projector

Puntos Fuertes: Great Contrast Good Light Power Great Quality Image/Price ratio

Puntos Débiles: Lack of Connection Options Specifically DVI connector.

There is a wide consensus around the internet that with this projector you get the most bang for the buck.

I use this projector in a coffe table and project a 80 to 120 inch (diagonal) image (depending on my mood) on a plain white wall (no special screen).

Let me say that the quality of the image straight out of the box is great. I expected a low quality of image from a DVD player (not progressive scan) using S-Video connection, but let me say that the built-in de-interlacer does a great job, and I don't see any artifacts with DVDs. However, with S-Video you do not use all the resolution of the projector (I'm not 100% sure about this). So the best solution by far is to use a PC and RGB connection, to control the de-interlacing with all the options with a Program like PowerDVD or WinDVD, you also control the refresh rate with your video card which may help you control the DLP rainbow if you see them. Anyhow, DVD and S-Video will work more than fine.

Even when sitting beside the projector with my ears 2 ft. away from the projector, noise is no issue. At this distance you hear it, but it is not a problem.

Light Power
This is tricky. At night you will want the economy mode with less light, because at full power it is just too bright, it illuminates fully my living room, and it is reflecting on a normal wall (no fancy high reflectivity screen). However, during the day you have to control the light very well or otherwise your contrast is lost, perhaps in more lighted conditions the fancy (i.e. $200+) screen may do the trick.

DLP works with microscopic mirrors that shift to let pass light through at determined moments. They combine with a rotating color wheel to let light pass through at the right moment to produce a determined color (out 16+ million). This method makes some people see rainbows in the image. Honestly, I do not know if I see the rainbows or not. This is a psychovisual effect (just as moving images are a psychovisual effect; a movie are 24 fixed pictures per second which you believe are moving). I have been so obsessed of seeing them that I think I see them, but I am not sure. Anyway, if I see them there are really not a problem. You can still fine tune this issue by changing the refresh rate of the PC/RGB connection, at a lower refresh rate you may not see it. In any case, this is a problem with the DLP technology, not this projector.

I whole heartedly recommend this projector. You may pay $500-800 more for a projector with perhaps better built-in de-interlacer, DVI connection, no light escaping from the unit (which does happen with the PB6200 a little bit, but it is not a nuisance) and get the same XGA (1024*768) DLP image quality. It is not worth it. If you want a truly better projector you have to spend above $1500 and go for SONY's new LCD projector with high (above 1500:1) contrast or the DLP units with (1280x720) WXGA resolution. At the $1100-$1300 price range, with the peace of mind of 3 year warranty, this unit has no competition.

BenQ Value PB6200 DLP Projector

Puntos Fuertes: Bright, high resolution

Puntos Débiles: Occasional interlacing issues

I bought this projector based on reviews, which moderate expecations for it considering the price. It has done far better than I expected... the image is bright and clear, the colors are quite good, and fan is nearly silent. Just the composite video is OK, but component is awesome. Once you see a video game in widescreen at 80"+, you will never go back.

BenQ Value PB6200 DLP Projector

Puntos Fuertes: Quality of the image is very good

Puntos Débiles: White is a bit too white.

For the price, it is surely the best projector I have ever seen, mostly because of the quality of the image.
The only problem that I have seen so far was that when the projector is close to the screen, some pictures that have a lot of white on them, become uggly (the white is too white).

BenQ Value PB6200 DLP Projector

Puntos Fuertes: Great picture quality, lightweight, bright, convenient on-screen menu, good warranty.

Puntos Débiles: Somewhat limited inputs: no DVI, no component input without adapter. No auto focus.

I purchased this projector after months of shopping and research. It appears to be the best value for the price at the moment. I use the projector primarily for home theater setup (approx. 90" screen), and the video quality has been outstanding. I also liked the wide selection of manual adjustments possible using both on-screen menu and manual zoom/focus rings (although fully automatic focus would be nice). One minor gripe - limited number of inputs, requiring me to purchase extra Component-to-VGA adapter to connect the projector to my progressive scan DVD player. Overall conclusion: I highly recommend this projector to all home theater enthusiasts on budget like myself.
